[Resume] This research is about the systematization, organization and graphic montage of the didactic book entitled “Question about dwelling”. The production of the book aims to discuss and put together in a systematized and graphic way methodologic questions and formal results about dwelling discussed in the modules APT 61 – Atelier of Social Housing of the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design (FAUeD/ UFU). Its specific objectives are: (i) research and analyse project references of architectonic experiences of low cost, in the national and international sphere, of sinlge and multifamiliar housing focusing on aspects such as sustainability, use of alternative and non-conventional materials, and flexibility; (ii) complement and renovatethe references database of the module APT 61 – Atelier of Social Housing of the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design (FAUeD/ UFU), contributing to the upgrading of the course quality with emphasis in the teaching activities linked to research actions; (iii) stimulate the interdisciplinarity and integration of teaching and research activities in the formation process of the students of the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design.

When we refer to social housing, the revision necessity of the proposed models is even bigger. Besides the lack of technologic and constructive quality that we see in the housing complexes spread all around Brazil, with a few exceptions, it’s noticeable the very low quality of the spaces offered. The majority of these undertakings have offered residences that use as reference typologies from the European bourgeois housing of the 19^th century, characterized by the tripartite of the social, intimate an service spaces, to the modern archetype of the “residence-for-all”. By this democratization of the models, we watch an arbitrary reduction of the general characteristics, resulting in spaces excessively reduced and without any relation to the way of living of its residents. Frequently the discussions about social housing are centered on the themes like public politics, technics and constructive methods, alternative materials that sought improvements, in the general comfort of the users, and other similar themes. However, these housing’s design remain practically the same in decades, only with variations of alternative construction nature, without even questioning the function and articulation of the inhabiting spaces.

This research is about the systematization, organization and graphic montage of the didactic book entitled “Question about dwelling”. The production of the book aims to discuss and put together in a systematized and graphic way methodologic questions and formal results about dwelling discussed in the modules APT 61 – Atelier of Social Housing of the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design (FAUeD/ UFU).

It deals with research and analysis of project references of architectonic experiences of low cost, in the national and international sphere, of single and multifamily housing, focalizing its methodologies. Parallelly, this survey seeks the complementation and renovation of the references database of the module APT 61 – Atelier of Social Housing of the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design (FAUeD/ UFU), contributing to the improvement of the course quality with an emphasis on the teaching activities linked to research actions.
